Dr. Alexander Wiese, Partner

Dr. Alexander Wiese deals with all aspects of intellectual property rights, with a special focus on technical IP rights (patents and utility models).

Since his admission to the bar in 2016, Dr. Wiese advises international and national clients in complex national and cross-border patent disputes with a particular focus on the fields of mechanical engineering, medical devices, chip technology and telecommunications and information technology. In addition, he has been involved in numerous infringement proceedings relating to standard-essential patents and the coordination of related litigation campaigns.

In German proceedings, Dr. Wiese represents both plaintiffs and defendants and assists patent attorneys in national nullity proceedings as well as in parallel nullity proceedings in other jurisdictions. Dr. Wiese is also a registered representative before the Unified Patent Court where he has already gained extensive experience in several infringement proceedings.

Dr. Wiese advises not only German clients, but also clients from all over Europe as well as Asia and North America.

Background

Dr. Wiese studied law at the University of Freiburg with a specialization in Intellectual Property law. During his studies, he spent more than three years working as a research assistant at the Chair of Intellectual Property at the University of Freiburg (Prof. Dr. Maximilian Haedicke, LL.M.). Alexander finished his PhD thesis in patent law in 2015. During his legal clerkship, he worked, inter alia, for the German Opera in Düsseldorf, where he advised primarily on copyright law, as well as for an international law firm in Düsseldorf and London in the area of patent law.

After his admission to the bar in 2016, Alexander worked as a lawyer in the team of Dr. Martin Chakraborty in the IPMT group of Hogan Lovells in Düsseldorf. Alexander joined Wildanger in January 2019 and has been promoted to partner in 2024.

Dr. Wiese is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) and the Young Arbitration Lawyers Initiative (DIS 40). He is a Global Fellow 2023/24 of the US Federal Circuit Bar Association.
